July Challenge

Welcome to July

On 3 July 1938, A4 class locomotive Mallard raced down Stoke Bank at 126mph to set a new steam locomotive world speed record. That record still stands.

This July marks the 75 year anniversary of that record so your challenge is to either incorporate a train into your project or to make it a little easier add a bird for the Mallard.

and here is a piccie of the Mallard from when I visited the National Railway Museum in York a few years ago.

The prize this month is a guest design team slot for our September challenge. Entry is by the inlinkz button at the bottom of the post. Entry closes at 23:59GMT on 31st July 2013

I decided to take a different approach to this months piece, I have used a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson to make a card. The background is made using Fresco paints by PaperArtsy, I tried to give the effect of a train flying past scenery. This is made on an 8" x 8" card.

For my project this month I decided to do a train themed card.

I was inspired by the challenge to scrap a page of my friends in I in a train station ...
Can you spot the train???

Katie

At the recent scrapbook expo in Arlington Texas I found the most wonderful stamp set that was perfect for this card, even the railway card was the correct company that built this record breaking steam train.
Now I'm definitely not used to this style of card making but I did my best with my limited knowledge and skills.
I stamped all the images in the Distress ink, including stamping on the ribbon on the inside message mat.
I inked the edges and also added a little torn border at the bottom

Since I did'nt have any Train or Mallard designs in my collection I did a little improvising and created a Steampunk ATC with a Railroad and Journey theme. All the main designs used are my own creations and the background has been painted, splattered and dripped with watercolor. For added interest, and to give my piece more of a Steampunk look, I added a couple of metal cogs.
