August Challenge And A Bit Of News

Welcome to August.  After this month we are having a break for a little while.  I'm not sure how long for at the moment but watch this space for announcements.  For this reason the August challenge is just for fun and there isn't a link tool.  If you do decide to take part then leave us a comment so we can see what you have created.

As some of you may have noticed I haven't got around to picking a winner for some of the previous months so I will put together a little package of flowers from the shop for those winners as obviously they can't be guest designers if we don't have any challenges for a while. I'll get around to that over the next few days.

I've gone back over to design seeds this month for your inspiration because I couldn't resist this mouthwatering photo.

Totally inspired by the photo I decided to create a layout with a photo from my holidays last summer.  I created my background paper using watercolour paints ...

For my creation this month I was insired by the delicious looking strawberries and the bright fun colours

Katie Tate

For my card I decided to go with a fruity theme and this super cute watermelon image just screamed "Summer" to me and the color combination was perfect.

For our August challenge, I created an Art Tag which uses one of my original Asian Digital Stamp Designs as the main focal point. The little Asian Jar Toy has been colored with Prismacolor pencils and blended with odorless turpentine using paper stumps. The pink background was created using my "How do I love the digital stamp background design and for extra embellishments I used various colors of Embroidery floss, Gold Thread, Green Satin Ribbon, Tiny Rhinestones and 3 Red Wooden Beads.

I have enjoyed being part of the Craft Garden DT these past months and taking part in the challenges and want to say thank you Kerry for not only the opportunity to design for you but also for the fun, motivation and the inspiration you have given me and I look forward to new challenges in the future.

July Challenge

Welcome to July

On 3 July 1938, A4 class locomotive Mallard raced down Stoke Bank at 126mph to set a new steam locomotive world speed record. That record still stands.

This July marks the 75 year anniversary of that record so your challenge is to either incorporate a train into your project or to make it a little easier add a bird for the Mallard.

and here is a piccie of the Mallard from when I visited the National Railway Museum in York a few years ago.

The prize this month is a guest design team slot for our September challenge. Entry is by the inlinkz button at the bottom of the post. Entry closes at 23:59GMT on 31st July 2013

I decided to take a different approach to this months piece, I have used a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson to make a card. The background is made using Fresco paints by PaperArtsy, I tried to give the effect of a train flying past scenery. This is made on an 8" x 8" card.

For my project this month I decided to do a train themed card.

I was inspired by the challenge to scrap a page of my friends in I in a train station ...
Can you spot the train???

Katie

At the recent scrapbook expo in Arlington Texas I found the most wonderful stamp set that was perfect for this card, even the railway card was the correct company that built this record breaking steam train.
Now I'm definitely not used to this style of card making but I did my best with my limited knowledge and skills.
I stamped all the images in the Distress ink, including stamping on the ribbon on the inside message mat.
I inked the edges and also added a little torn border at the bottom

Since I did'nt have any Train or Mallard designs in my collection I did a little improvising and created a Steampunk ATC with a Railroad and Journey theme. All the main designs used are my own creations and the background has been painted, splattered and dripped with watercolor. For added interest, and to give my piece more of a Steampunk look, I added a couple of metal cogs.

June Challenge

Welcome to June

I've chosen a design seeds picture as your inspiration this month.

The prize is a guest design team slot for August.

Here is what our lovely design team created

For my project this month I was inspired by the gorgeous blue colours

I've taken the colours and made an art journal entry
in my altered dictionary ...

Katie
Hello and here is my first project as a new member of The Craft Garden.
I took the soft blue tones and added brown to make a cute boy card and I hope you enjoy it.
Helen
Well what a nightmare of a month I have had! Creating has not been the problem, the problem has been my laptop picked up several very nasty viruses and had to go to the laptop hospital!
The layout below I have made for an album of my friends daughter, who turns 21 in July. I was given a big box of family photographs and told to pick the most suitable ones for the album, which was lovely to be able to do.

I wanted to create something quite different this time around and decided on wearable art in the form of an Art Doll Brooch. I designed all the paper elements myself and used reinforced card stock, a squashed bottle cap, wire, beads and a heart charm.
